review walther ppk

Review Walther Ppk - One of the most respected small self-loading pistols is the Walther PPK. The Walther P series was not the first double-action, first-shot pistol; The Little Tom predates the Walther, but the Walther PP is widely accepted as a high-quality, well-made, and reliable pistol with good features.

The later PPK/S is a product of import quotas and other nonsense that began after the 1968 Gun Control Act. The PPK/S has the short slide of the Walther PPK and the full length grip of the PP.

The PPK/S is not a bad weapon at all. What was considered a tough law and a high regard for the PPK affected sales of the PPK/S, although the pistol was eventually widely adopted; after all, there was no way to get the PPC.

A few years later, Walther began manufacturing the gun in America, and the rest is history, as importation points do not apply to our own guns.

PPK is a good weapon. However, if you've ever fired a full-size, original PP pistol, you'll find that the PPK is an excellent, easy-to-handle, and accurate shooter.

The PPK became known as James Bond's Bond gun. I don't wear a tuxedo and I drive a Ford Truck, not an Aston Martin. I appreciate the Walther PPK though. It's a simple gun in many ways.

Trigger action, double action, first shot and activation is simple recoil without the complications of a bolt lock. The string is about 3.25 inches long and is heavier than the newer types of polymer-framed pistols.

It's harder for a reason. Recoil is light and the gun is amazingly accurate. Double action, the pull on the first shot is long and smooth and most useful at talking distance.

The single-action press is smooth and sharp at less than 4 pounds, helping the trigger with accurate fire. A slide mount safety and decocker are part of the design. Pushing the decoder down lowers the mounting hammer, and when the lever is left down it acts as a safety.

The PPK safety is easily operated by average sized hands. Unlike the safety lever on larger pistols like the Beretta 92, this slide-mounted lever is easily accessible due to the PPK's small size. The fit and finish of the Walther PPK is perfect. It fits well in the hand, and while a large hand may be a little tight, the gun fits most of us well.

My gun came with two magazines. One has an extended finger rest that better accommodates larger hands. The checkered grips grip your hand well when shooting. This is important because the hand must be steady when firing the gun and using the double-action trigger.

The PPK's slide is notorious for biting the webbing of the firing hand during recoil. I felt this trauma during these shooting tests. Maybe there is a way to hold the gun to avoid the problem.

In the past, the gun also had a less-than-stellar reputation for reliability. However, after owning at least half a dozen types in the original PP, PPK, and PPK/S versions (including .22 LR and several .32 ACP variants), I can't recall a malfunction. I have a lot of worn police trades that drop a worn magazine latch from time to time, but the pistols have been mostly reliable.

Although an integral part of older designs, I believe they need more frequent cleaning and oiling than some types. And old designs are not a bad thing. They just require more maintenance.

You have to grip the gun firmly for it to work. The PPK is a reverse action with a recoil spring that wraps around the barrel, the simplest design.

Walther magazines are a good design that securely holds loaded cartridges under the feeding lip. Loading magazines takes some effort. I took my personal sample out of the case, oiled it up, and prepared it for this test and review.

For long range, reliable, accurate and clean burning ammo, I loaded the gun with Fiocchi 95 grain FMJ. I fired 50 rounds of Fiocchi ammunition in rapid fire drills and found it to be more accurate than you might imagine for a gun the size of.

Sights are a limiting factor. however, they are larger than most pocket pistols of the era.

Walter is quick in the draw. The double-action trigger is softer in some cases than others. After about 5 yards you can deliberately raise the hammer to fire rather than trying to pull the trigger and hope for a hit.

In single-action mode, the Walther is quite accurate, and it's not difficult to set a clip in the X-ring at 10 yards in rapid-fire conditions. The rebound is manageable. I'm not a fan of the .380 ACP for personal defense, it is what it is.

The balance of penetration and expansion is very short on the expansion side in most JHP loads in this caliber, limiting the cartridge's impact.

.380 ACP is not strong enough to both penetrate and expand in most loads. This is a personal decision. I tested the PPK with a number of hollow point loads and found them to be reliable and accurate for protection. The single most important component of injury potential is marksmanship.

This is a self-defense, accurate, reliable setup that I trust will provide adequate penetration with extension.

As a pistol, the Walther PPK is popular and often based more on looks, fit, finish and even mystery than performance. There are more powerful guns out there, but few make you proud to own them.

The balance of the gun is ideal and it carries well. It is generally considered a pocket pistol and can fit well in most pockets. The PPK is an easy pistol to shoot accurately at close range, at least in single-action shooting, and finds the target quickly in trained hands. Generally, there is little guilt.

While James Bond is best known for carrying a Walther PPK, one real-life person who saw actual action was the late Skeeter Skelton. Skelton was an active gun writer for several decades. His work could be taken to the bank.

Such was Skelton's talent that he sometimes crossed the stage of knowledge and enlightenment to produce genuine literature. As a police officer working on the Mexican border, Skelton was serious about finding a reliable gun for an inconspicuous undershirt.

The 2.5-inch-barreled Smith and Wesson Model 19 .357 Magnum didn't quite make it. He preferred the Colt Commander .45. It was also carried by the PPK when necessary.

He tested the penetration of the gun on pine boards. Compared to the 158-grain RNL, the most common .38 Special loading of the day, the PPK .380 ACP had similar penetration against pine boards. That's about 700 fps out of a 158 grain .38.2 inch barrel, and the 95 grain FMJ .380 ACP breaks over 900 fps.

Honestly, both were comparable for concealed carry. Today, personal defense loads have greatly enhanced the .38 Special, giving it a distinct advantage. Likewise, the .380 ACP has the effect of hitting vital points. The rest is up to you.

During the test program, I used the hybrid Alien Gear IWB/Tuckable, an affordable, quality holster with a clean bill of health.

However, compared to more modern handguns, the Walther PPK is a terrible choice for self-defense and concealed carry. It's not even a fun plinker. If you're not a collector or an avid James Bond enthusiast, there are much better options.

Hello everyone, I'm Chris Baker and I'm not too interested in the Walther PPK. I know a lot of people love PPK for different reasons. Very nice looking design. It has a certain historical significance. And, of course, the most likely fiction, mildly spiritual,
