Glock 19 Vs 43 - Everyone will rise! The Court of Public Opinion is now in session! This morning is a case of Glock 43 vs. Glock 19.
Like any heated courtroom battle, arguments over which gun is "the best" can bring out the full heat of a well-written TV drama. In today's case, the decision between the Glock 43 and the Glock 19 is a battle between members of the same family. But don't worry, there are no losers in this family feud.
Glock 19 Vs 43
The Glock 19 is a perennial favorite in the defensive shooting community. This is not the first gun I have ever bought, but I have carried it for over 25 years. I can easily see why many gun owners like it. The pistol is compact enough for concealed carry, yet large enough for military and law enforcement use. The pistol is also an ideal weapon for home defense. I have used my gun as a home defense weapon, for personal protection outside of the home, and as a service weapon as a sheriff's deputy.
Equipment Review: The Glock 43
Chambered in 9mm, the Glock 19 loads 15 rounds into a single flat magazine and is paper compatible to hold more if needed. Although the pistol is light compared to metal frame handguns, it has enough mass to make recoil easy. Since the weapon is so popular, there are many accessories for it.
Perhaps the best aspect of the Glock 19 is its excellent reliability. It's a reputation built on millions of flight hours and thousands of real-world encounters at the hands of armed citizens, police officers and US Army Special Forces. While no machine is perfect, the G19 works under pressure.
So, the Glock 19 sounds like the perfect defensive pistol. It does everything. So no need to continue with this article, right? Not exactly. Next, we compare the smaller Glock 43 with the. Glock 19 to see what it has to offer.
While the G19 is a great gun, it is not perfect in all situations. It's not super thin, and it's not small enough to slip into your pocket. It's just too big and awkward for many people to comfortably hide on. If you need something small to carry, the Glock 19 might be a non-starter.
Glock 26 Vs Glock 43
A 9mm pistol that functions similarly to the older Glock 19, the G43 is much thinner, shorter and lighter. It can't be used as a primary sidearm for a cop or a Navy SEAL, but it can be used for a soccer mom or store owner. For many people, size matters, which is why the Glock 43 shines.
How much smaller is the Glock 43 compared to the Glock 19? It's over 1 inch shorter and about 0.2 inches thinner. It also weighs just under 18 ounces (unloaded), making it over 5.5 ounces lighter. These measurements may not seem like much, but when you hold the two guns in your hands, you can immediately tell that the differences are more than academic. The G43 is significantly smaller and easier to conceal.
Of course, the smaller size of the Glock 43 requires compromises elsewhere. One of the most important is capacity. When you choose the Glock 43 over the Glock 19, you give up nine rounds. The smaller gun only holds six rounds in each magazine. While this is likely enough for most lethal force encounters, there's no guarantee you won't need more if you're brutally attacked.
Another trade-off is potential accuracy. Both guns are very likely more accurate than you and I can shoot. However, everyone's ergonomics can affect how well we shoot. A larger gun has a longer aiming radius, allowing for more accurate shooting. Also, the larger pistol allows for a better grip on the weapon. A strong grip can also improve your ability to put balls where you want them.
Glock 43 Vs 43x: A Face Off
Shooting the Glock 43 and Glock 19 side-by-side at the range helps explain the size differences between the two pistols. Simply put, the larger G19 is more comfortable to shoot, has less recoil, produces a higher bullet velocity, and allows the shooter to form smaller groups.
As I mentioned earlier in this article, the larger size of the Glock 19 means that almost any shooter can wrap both hands around the pistol for a stable two-handed grip. Such a grip coating contributes to better handling and less perceptible recoil. In addition, the weight of the pistol combined with the increased slide mass helps to reduce muzzle rise and feel the recoil impulse.
In addition to the control that comes with a good grip, the G19's longer sight radius allows for improved accuracy for many shooters. When looking at "which gun is easier to pick up and shoot more accurately", the Glock 19 easily beats the Glock 43. But that's not the whole story.
The purpose of the Glock 43 is to provide a reliable means of defense when a larger gun is not an option. In this parameter, the G43 has exceptional performance.
Comparing The Glock 43 Vs. 43x
Although smaller than the Glock 19, the Glock 43 is still large enough for a solid grip and control. The Glock 43 has increased felt recoil and muzzle flip compared to the Glock 19, but they are not harsh or uncontrollable to the experienced shooter. Similarly, although group sizes are likely to be larger, they should still be roughly the size of a person's torso.
Note. Velocity is the average of five shots, measured with a chronograph 9 inches from the muzzle. Speed measurements are in feet per second. In five-shot groups, 7-yard accuracy is given in inches.
There is a huge difference in the velocities of defensive ammo when fired from the two guns. It is impossible to predict the impact they may have on any given defensive situation. However, velocity is a tool used by load design teams to ensure bullet expansion. If the bullet's velocity slows down too much, the projectile can expand unreliably when it hits the target. This is always a concern with small pistols, not just the G43.
When you stack the pistols on top of each other, it's clear that the Glock 43 beats the Glock 19 in terms of size - in terms of capacity? Not exactly…

While both pistols are great performers, they both tend to serve different roles. The Glock 43 is clearly suited for concealed carry – especially when a larger pistol would be impractical. While I find it easy to shoot, it requires a higher level of skill to shoot than a full size pistol like the Glock 19. However, its role as a concealed carry pistol is hard to beat.
The Glock 19 is the best choice for a more general purpose pistol that can serve a variety of roles. The G19 can be carried concealed, but is large enough for competition, law enforcement duties, and home defense. It offers more than twice the power of the G43, improved sight radius and higher bullet velocity. However, it is not suitable for all cloaking roles.
Which gun is right for you is up to you. If your primary need is a small pistol for personal defense outside of the home, the Glock 43 may be your best bet. In most other cases, the Glock 19 may be a better choice.

Part of Glock's success is due to evolving gun options and law enforcement's desire to better combat the growth of America's drug trade. Glock introduced a lighter and more accurate semi-automatic handgun. This powerful reputation is primarily due to two popular models, the G43 and G19.
G19 came to prominence in 1988. as the first real improvement to the guns Glock has produced since 1981. It is one of the world's first 9mm concealed carry firearms and was immediately placed on the wanted list of US Special Operations personnel. The G43 was released in 2015 with improvements for true concealed carry professionals.
