Glock 19 Vs 43x Size - The 2019 Shot Show kicked off early as Glock announced a pair of new 9mm compact pistols to US shooters in late January. These new single-stack offerings are strictly for concealed carry enthusiasts looking to increase capacity for their Slimline pistols. Both the G43X and G48 boast 10+1 round capacities in their familiar single-stack Glock magazines.
As you may have noticed, both guns have an nPVD silver slide. This gives them a two-tone look and visually differentiates them from the original range. Both slides have front and rear serrations, as well as Glock's "Made in Austria" designation.

The Glock 43X and Glock 48 may be familiar to you. Both feature the popular design of the previously released Slimline series. Glock hopes that these changes to the frame of the original Glock 43 pistol will make these new guns a better choice for concealed carry. It seems that more American shooters are getting comfortable with 9mm ammunition as their carry choice as we continue to see more handguns hit the market.

If the Glock 42 was the answer to Ruger's popular .380 LCP pocket pistol, the new G43X is a bold statement for other single-stack 9mm pistol manufacturers. They didn't invent the wheel, but they seem to have listened to their original users' opinions on slimline pistol design. Glock has cleverly incorporated elements of the Slimline series such as a shorter trigger pull, as well as a built-in beavertail and retractable magazine catch. Take any pistol apart and you'll find an identical GLOCK shooter barrel embedded in the slide. Glock plans to release both pistols with three sight configurations: Standard, Glock Night Sights, and Ameriglo Bold.

Both the 43X and the G48 have a grip that is slightly larger than the original G43. Comparing the Glock 43 to the Glock 43X They have the same frame, the slide is slightly longer (6.85″) on the G48 than the 43X. (The G43X has the same slide length as the original G43 at 6.06 inches.)
Looking straight on, the G43X and G43 have the same slide width. The G43X has a slightly wider body at 1.10 inches. The G48 looks like a skinned version of the G19. It has a slightly longer barrel length (4.17 inches) and a thinner frame.

It's easy for me to see why this appeals to so many gun owners. The pistol is compact enough for concealment, yet large enough for military and law enforcement use. Likewise, the pistol is an ideal home defense gun. I have used mine as a home defense weapon, for personal defense outside of the home, and as a service weapon as a deputy sheriff.

Chambered in 9mm, the Glock 19 holds 15 rounds in one magazine and is compatible with magazines that hold more if needed. Although lighter than metal frame rifles, the rifle has enough bulk to support light recoil. Because the gun is so popular, there are many accessories for it.
Perhaps the best aspect of the Glock 19 is its stellar reputation for reliability. It's a reputation built on millions of hours of range time and thousands of real-world sightings by armed citizens, police officers and US Army special forces. While no machine is perfect, the G19 has a proven track record of performing under pressure.
So, the Glock 19 looks like the perfect defensive handgun. It does everything. So no need to continue with this article, right? Not exactly. Next, we'll compare the smaller Glock 43 to the Glock 19 to see what it has to offer.
While the G19 is an excellent weapon, it is not suitable for all situations. It is not particularly thin, nor is it small enough to fit in a pocket. It is too big and bulky for most people to comfortably carry on their person. If you need something small to carry, the Glock 19 may be a non-starter.

A 9mm pistol that functions like the old Glock 19, the G43 is thinner, shorter and lighter. It won't work as a primary sidearm for a police officer or a Navy SEAL, but it can work as a primary sidearm for a soccer mom or store assistant. For most people, size matters, and that's where the Glock 43 shines.
How much smaller is the Glock 43 than the Glock 19? It is just over 1" in length and approximately 0.2" thin. It also weighs just under 18 oz (displaced), making it lighter than 5.5 oz. These measurements may not seem like much, but when you hold both guns in your hands, you immediately realize that the differences are more than academic. The G43 is remarkably small and easy to hide.
Of course, the smaller size of the Glock 43 requires compromises elsewhere. One of the most important is capacity. By choosing a Glock 43 over a Glock 19, you give up nine rounds. The small gun can only fire six rounds per magazine. While that's probably enough for most lethal force incidents, there's no guarantee you won't need more if you're viciously attacked.
Another trade-off is in potential accuracy. Both guns are more accurate than yours and I can shoot. However, everyone's ergonomics can affect how well we shoot. Larger guns have a larger aiming radius, allowing for more accurate shots. Also, a larger gun can allow for a better grip on the gun. A strong grip can also improve your ability to place the rounds where you intend to.

Shooting a Glock 43 and a Glock 19 side-by-side at the range helps illustrate the size difference between the two pistols. Simply put, the larger G19 is more comfortable to shoot, has less recoil, produces more bullet velocity, and allows the shooter to shoot smaller groups.
As I suggested earlier in this article, the large size of the Glock 19 means that almost any shooter can grip the pistol with two hands for a stable two-handed grip. This grip coating contributes to a better sense of control and less recoil. In addition, the weight of the gun, along with the increase in the slide, helps reduce muzzle lift and feel the recoil movement.
In addition to the control gained through a better grip, the G19's long aiming radius allows for better accuracy for most shooters. In terms of "which weapon is easier to pick up and shoot more accurately", the Glock 19 handily beats the Glock 43. But that is not the whole story.
The purpose of the Glock 43 is to provide a reliable means of defense when a larger handgun is not a viable option. Within this parameter, the G43 delivers exceptional performance.

Although smaller than the Glock 19, the Glock 43 is still large enough to have a secure grip and control. The Glock 43 has significantly more recoil and muzzle flip than the Glock 19, but it is neither stiff nor uncontrollable for the experienced shooter. Similarly, while group sizes are likely to be large, they should still be about the size of a human torso.
